A bird was sitting 9 meters from the base of an oak tree and flew 10 meters to reach the top of the tree. How tall is the tree? If necessary, round to the nearest tenth.

Answer:

4.36 ≈ 4.4

4.4 Meters

Explanation:

When leg a is 9 and the Hypotenuse is 10, the answer would be,

c = √a²+b² i.e, The Pythagorean Theorem for the Leg.

If we substitute the 9 and 10 into the theorem given it would look like this,

c = √100 - 81 which would then equal 19

√19 = 4.359

Now since the question asking to round to the nearest tenth, we can round this answer to 4.359 to 4.400 because .359 is closest to .400.

In short the answer is 4.4 Meters.
