Answer:

179 square feet ( approximate )

Explanation:

Given:

A circular garden with a radius of 8 feet is surrounded by a circular path with a width of 3 feet.

Question asked:

What is the approximate area of the path alone? Use 3.14 in terms of pie.

Solution:

First of all we will find area of circular garden and then combined area of garden and path and then subtract the garden area from combined area.

Radius, r of circular garden = 8 feet

Area\ of\ circle=\pi r^(2)

=3.14*(8)^(2) \\ \\ =3.14*64\\ \\ =200.96\ square\ feet

Combined radius, R = Radius of circular garden + width of path

= 8 + 3 = 11 feet

Combined\ area\ of\ the\ circular\ garden\ and\ path=\pi R^(2)

=3.14*(11)^(2) \\ \\ =3.14*121\\ \\ =379.94\ square\ feet

Now, area of the path = Combined area - Garden area

= 379.94 - 200.96

= 178.98 square feet

Therefore, the approximate area of the path alone is 179 square feet.
