A small radio transmitter broadcasts in a 63 mile radius. If you drive along a straight line from a city 38 miles north of the transmitter to a second city 43 miles east of the transmitter, during how much of the drive will you pick up a signal from the transmitter?

A signal from the transmitter will be picked up through out the 57.38 mile drive

Explanation:

The radius of the transmitter = 63 miles

Therefore, since both the location 38 miles north and the location 43 miles east of the transmitter are within the the radius, the transmission of the transmitter will be received through out the straight line journey

The length of the travel path is given by;

Distance from 38 miles north of the transmitter to distance of 43 miles east of transmitter =
√(38^2+43^2) = 57.38 \, miles.
