In this case we can solve it using a 2x2 system of equations, like this:

let x: children's tickets

let y: adult's tickets

So:

1.75 * x + 2 * y = 1143.75

x + y = 611 => x = 611 - y

Replacing, we are left with that:

1.75 * (611 - y) + 2 * y = 1143.75

1069.25 - 1.75 * y + 2 * y = 1143.75

- 1.75 * y + 2 * y = 1143.75 - 1069.25

0.25 * y = 74.5

y = 74.5 /0.25
