Answer:

1152 grams of iron

Explanation:

We are trying to figure out how many grams of iron are required to make a certain alloy. So, we see that the alloy has to be combined with 144 grams of zinc , so first, we find out how many times does it take to make 9 into 144, which can be done through division.

144 / 9

==> 16

So if it takes 16 times to make the required amount of alloy to combine 144 grams of zinc, we must also apply the grams of iron multiplied by 16.

72 * 16

==> 1,152

Therefore, it takes 1152 grams of iron will be needed to 1. combine with zinc and 2. to make the new alloy.
