Indicate their relative final temperatures from lowest (left) to highest (right). Assume no heat is lost to the surroundings. Q = m s Δ t , Q is amount of heat added , m is mass , s is specific heat and

Δ t is rise in temperature .

Δ t = Q / ms

For water , iron , olive oil mass is 1 kg

So

for water,

Δ t = Q / 4.19

for iron,

Δ t = Q / .46

for olive oil,

Δ t = Q / 1.79

For brick

Δ t = Q / .5 x .9

= Q / .45

Lower the denominator , higher the value.

So

Q / 4.19 < Q / 1.79 <Q / .46 <Q / .45
