Explanation:

You can determine the area of this triangle by spliting the triangle into two seperate ones and calculate using the formula A = b x h / 2.

If you were to split the triangle up at x = -2, you will get 2 different triangles; lets say DEG, and EFG, plotting point G at ( -8, -2).

From here, triangle DEG will have a base of 18 units and a height of 10 units, and triangle EFG will have a base of 18 units and a height 6 units.

Area of triangle DEG = 18 x 10 / 2

= 180 / 2

= 90 square units

Area of triangle EFG = 18 x 6 / 2

= 108 / 2

= 54 square units

Simply add the two answers together to get the collective amount of the triangles area, 90 + 54 = 144.

The answers 144 square units.
