A can of coke contains 25 ML of carbon dioxide gas at 100 kpa . If you take it on a hike up Mount Everest and pressure to 50 Kpa what will the new volume of the carbon dioxide gas in your coke can be ?

The answer for the following problem is mentioned below.

  • Therefore the final volume of the gas is 50 ml.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Pressure of carbon dioxide gas (
P_(1)) = 100 Kpa

Final pressure of the carbon dioxide gas (
P_(2)) = 50 Kpa

Initial volume of carbon dioxide gas (
V_(1)) = 25 ml

To find:

Final volume of the carbon dioxide gas (
V_(2))

From the ideal gas equation;

P × V = n × R × T

From the above equation,

P×V = constant

P ∝
(1)/(V)

So;

(P_(1) )/(P_(2) ) = (V_(2) )/(V_(1) )

where;

P_(1) represents the initial pressure of the gas

P_(2) represents the final pressure of the gas

V_(1) represents the initial volume of the gas

V_(2) represents the final volume of the gas

Substituting the values;

(100)/(50) =
(V_(2) )/(25)

V_(2) = 50 ml

Therefore the final volume of the gas is 50 ml.
