Why did the playwright of “Hamilton”, Lin Manuel, use a rap battle to show the debate between Hamilton and Jefferson?

They used a rap because the musical is mostly music, and they wanted to have an argument. Rap, was the best choice for that.

Hope this helped!

The playwright used a rap battle too demonstrate the differences in their principles of equality.

Step-by-step explanation:

The rap battle is a cultural phenomenon that stems from Black culture and has been integral to the development of hip hop.

As such, the connotations with Black culture make it a potent tool to explore the class relations and race through the eyes of the founders of the nation.

Thomas Jefferson was a slave owner and never really lived by the ideals of liberty and fraternity.

This is pointed out by Hamilton in the verses and thus it becomes a tool to talk about the hypocrisy of the early liberty of US.
