Answer:

x = 5

Explanation:

CE is the whole line, so that means we are going to set the other two lengths equal to it; CE = CD + DE or 7x+4 = (x+3) + (8x-9)

The first thing we are going to do is combine like-terms;

7x+4 = (x+8x) + (3-9)

Now we have;

7x+4 = 9x-6

From here you isolate x by putting all x-values on one side;

10=2x

Now simplify;

5=x

Hey there,

To find the value of x we can take the two, CD or DE and set them equal to CE.

First step is set the lines equal to each other:

  • x + 3 + 8x - 9 = 7x + 4

Now we combine like terms:

  • 9x - 6 = 7x + 4

Then we subtract 7x from both sides:

  • 2x - 6 = 4

Add 6 to both sides:

  • 2x = 10

Lastly we divide both sides by 2:

  • x = 5

So the value of x would have to be 5.

Hope I helped,

Amna
