Length of line segments are 27 cm , 42 cm !

Explanation:

Here we have , One line segment is 12 less than twice the length of another line segment. The sum of their lengths are 69 cm.We need to find How long are the line segments. Let's find out:

Let length of on line segment be x , So According to question length of other line segment will be 12 less than twice the length of previous line segment i.e.

2x-12

Now , Sum of both the line segments is 69 cm i.e.

x+2x-12=69

3x=69+12

3x=81

x=27

So , lengths of segments are : x = 27 cm , 2x-12 = 2(27)-12 = 54-12=42 cm

Therefore ,

Length of line segments are 27 cm , 42 cm !

Explanation:

Let us consider the length of a line segment to be 'x'

Let the other line segment be 'y'

One line segment is 12 less than twice the length of other segment.

X = 2y - 12

The sum of both the lengths = 69cm

X + Y = 69

X = 69 - Y

Substitute the X value in the first equation

X = 2y - 12

69 - Y = 2Y - 12

- Y - 2Y = -12 -69

- 3Y = - 81

3Y = 81

Y = 81/3

Y = 27 CM

Length of One of the line segment is 27cm

The length of the other line segment 'x'

is

X= 2y - 12

X = 2(27) - 12

X = 54 - 12

X = 42cm

The length of the line segments are 42cm and 27cm.
