If you look throughout Hollywood (both movies and tv shows), you could easily argue that there aren't any original ideas out there. This is for a number of reasons. One of which is that well established ideas that have been proven to make money, tend to stay in favor of producers and production companies. It's the model of "if it's not broke, then don't fix it". There are countless number of sequels and remakes out there. Some movies seem original but in reality they are based on an old tv show or movie that many people have forgotten about. In addition, there are many forms of media based on novels.

That last point about novels is likely the starting point of many creative ideas in my opinion. They are the metaphorical tributaries that feed into the large river of overall media on the landscape. A big reason why novels are more creative than movies is that authors have far greater control over what exactly happens in their books. They don't have studio execs looking over their shoulder to craft things in a similar fashion of prior established works. To be fair, authors that work for large publishing companies aren't completely free to write what they want. They must abide by censorship rules and the publishing companies probably do influence things a bit; however, it is not as much as what you see on screen media.

Moving outside of entertainment, there are countless number of innovations being done today as we speak. This involves new inventions of things never dreamt up before, but also twists on old ideas as well. Many products are seeing improvements and new uses. A recent example is the advent of 3D printing, which allows anyone anywhere to construct a 3D model of just about anything. All they need are the plans and the material to get the job done.

So it's a mixed bag to simply say there are no original ideas out there. I would argue that there are plenty of original ideas. You just have to know where to look. The landscape is dominated by derivatives, copies and clones, so its easy to get lost and think we're just scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel of creativity. Try to look in unexpected places for new ideas. Above all, you have a brain that can come up with ideas just like anyone else can. So instead of thinking "they should do xyz", why not try to get that idea into motion somehow.
