A measuring cylinder contains 40 cm3 of water. When a stone of mass 69 g is dropped into the water, the stone sinks and the water level rises to the 70 cm mark. (a) Calculate the volume of the stone. (b) Calculate the density of the stone. ( ignore the subject. the subject is science.)

Answer: 2.3 g cm^3

Explanation: In this case the rise in level of water is same as the volume occupied by the stone.

a) Volume occupied by the stone = 70 cm^3 – 40 cm^3= 30 cm^3

b) Density = mass/volume

= 69g/30 cm^3 = 2.3 g cm^3
