The midpoint of AB is M(7. – 7). If the coordinates of A are (8,-6), what are the

coordinates of B?

Answer: B = (6,-8)

Explanation:

first the midpoint formula is
((x1+x2)/(2),(y1+y2)/(2))

then you take the x co-ordinate of A and substitute it into one of the x values in the first part of the formula:


(8+x)/(2)=7

then solve it like an equation:


8+ x=14\\x=6

then you take the y co-ordinate of A and substitute it into one of the y values in the second part of the midpoint formula:


(-6+y)/(2) =-7

then solve it like an equation:


-6+y=-14\\y=-8

∴ the answer is x=6, y= -8

which is expressed as a point, B(6,-8)
