A tree is 30 feet tall. You measure the angle of elevation from the ground where you are

standing to the top of the tree and get 50 degrees. How far away from the tree are you?

Let's see

  • tan50=Perpendicular/Base
  • tan50=30/Base
  • Base=30/tan50
  • Base=25.17ft

Explanation:

given :

h = 50 ft

the angle if elevation , a = 50°

find :

the distance , d =?

the answer:

tan a = h/d

d = h /tan a

= 50/ tan 50°

= 50 / 1,19

= 42,02 ft
