The length of a rectangle is six feet greater than the width. the perimeter is 168 feet. What are the dimensions of the rectangle?

w = width

Perimeter, p of a rectangle = 2( l + w)

and p = 168 feet

but l = 6 + w

substitute the value of l

168 = 2(( 6 + w) + w)

168 = 2( 6 + w +w)

168 = 2(6 + 2w)

expand

168 = 12 + 4w

subtract 12 from both sides

168 - 12 = 4w

156 = 4w

divide both sides by 4

39 = w

substitute the value of w in l = 6 + w

l = 6 + 39

l = 45

Hence, the dimensions are 45 feet by 39 feet
