After losing their bases in North Africa, Italy become an easy target for the next allied forces attack. (North Africa is located really close to Italy. )

This defeat shaken ed up the people's trust toward Benito Mussolini and the fascist party. So, King Victor Emmanuel III and Italian Prime Minister Pietro Badoglio plotted to get rid of Mussolini by accepting the term of surrender given by the Allied Forces. In return, Italy was given with favorable term of surrender and receive less economic damaged compared to Germany.
