Answer:

You annotate to better understand what you are reading. It also helps to keep you more awake and focused.

Step-by-step explanation:

Reasons why you should annotate:

  1. keeps you awake and engaged
  2. It helps you process what your reading as you read it
  3. It also slows down your reading which is good
  4. It acts like a bookmark when you go back to the text

How to annotate:

  1. Your notes should represent your thoughts
  2. Color code
  3. Circle unfamiliar words
  4. Write questions
  5. Paraphrase paragraphs
  6. Give each paragraph a title
  7. Your notes should represent an interaction with the story.
  8. Don't annotate everything
  9. Helps cut down study and review time
  10. Helps understand key concepts/main ideas
  11. Make a code or system and be persistent with it
  12. Look for patterns
  13. Focus on elements that surprise, puzzle and intrigue you

This should help you. Obviously you don't have to do all of these but they each differ on which you should use depending on what your reading.

if you’re asking how to annotate, it’s pretty simple. look for things worth writing down. if anything interesting or surprising comes up in the story, you could literally write “wow,” it shows that you are interacting with the text. also look for figure of speech and stuff like that. hope this helps :)
