It causes day and night as well as seasons, the northern hemisphere will have winter, while the southern hemisphere will have summer, and vice versa. It also causes tides, as earth rotates, there's a gravitational pull by the moon thus creating tides. However, the tides cause a frictional pull against the earth, causing the earth the spin slower. When the earth slows, the moon drifts farther away.
