Aleysha is painting one of her bedroom walls blue. On Monday, she painted 3 of the 4 walls, but decided she didn't like the color. On Tuesday she switched colors and repainted 2 3 of the walls green. How much of the blue wall had been painted green at the end of Tuesday?

Hey there,

In order to solve this equation we are going to subtract 2/3 by 3/4.

To add or subtract fractions we need to make sure that they have a common denominator:

  • 2/3 and 3/4 (common denominator would be 12) so 8/12 and 9/12

Now that the denominators are the same we can subtract the two fractions:

  • 9/12 - 8/12 would equal to 1/12

That means that 1/12th of the wall still needs to be done.

Therefore 8/12 of the wall had been painted green at the end of Tuesday.

Hope I helped,

Amna
