X2 + 8x + 19 = 0 What is the equivilent that results from completing the square?

Standard form is what this equation is in

Standard form is this:
ax^2+bx+c

So order to complete the square, you need to take the
b term out of the equation, divide it by two, and then square it

In this case, the
b term is 8

We need to divide 8 by 2 ---> 4

Then square 4 ---> 16

So now you should add 16 to both sides


x^2+8x+16+19=16

Now you can simplify the LHS


(x+4)^2 +19=16

Now you subtract 16 from both sides


(x+4)^2+3=0

So this is as far as you can go since you cannot take the square root of a negative number
