At a particular restaurant, each onion ring has 65 calories and each slider has 250

calories. A combination meal with onion rings and sliders has a total of 5 onion rings
and sliders altogether and contains 695 calories. Determine the number of onion
rings in the combination meal and the number of sliders in the combination meal.

Answer:

3 onion rings and 2 sliders

Explanation:

x=onion rings y=sliders

695 calories divided by 250 calories = 2.78

the reason we divide like this is because there are 250 calories per slider, and 695 calories in total.

695 calories divided by 65 calories = 10.69

^(65 from the calories per onion ring)

since the maximum that can go into 695 for sliders is 2, we'll start there:

65x + 250y = 695

65x + 250(2) = 695

65x + 500 = 695 subtract 500 from both sides

65x = 195 divide 65 from both sides

x = 3

so... x = 3 and y = 2 ... meaning that there are 3 onion rings and 2 sliders.

hope this helps ! :)
