Given:

ΔFEG is similar to ΔIHJ

To find:

The value of y

Solution:

If two triangles are similar, then their corresponding angles are congruent.

⇒ ∠G ≅ ∠J

⇒ m∠G = m∠J

⇒ 56° = 5y° + 6°

Subtract 6° from both sides.

⇒ 56° - 6° = 5y° + 6° - 6°

⇒ 50° = 5y°

Divide by 5 on both sides.

$\Rightarrow (50^\circ)/(5) =(5y^\circ)/(5)

$\Rightarrow{10^\circ}=y^\circ

The value of y is 10.
