A car passes point $A$ driving at a constant rate of $60$ km per hour. A second car, traveling at a constant rate of $75$ km per hour, passes the same point $A$ a while later and then follows the first car. It catches the first car after traveling a distance of $75$ km past point $A$. How many minutes after the first car passed point $A$ did the second car pass point $A$

Answer:

Therefore 15 minutes after the first car passed point A, the second car passed point A.

Explanation:

Given that, a car passes point A driving at a constant rate of 60 km per hour. A second car, travelling at a constant rate of 75 km per hour, passes the same point A.

Second car catches the first car after travelling a distance 75 km past point A.

So, the first car also travels 75 km past point A before the second car catches it.

We know that,

Time =(Distance)/(Speed)

The first car travels 75 km in
=(75)/(60) minutes

= 1 hour 15 minutes.

It means that,

The first car passed the point A before 1 hour 15 minutes.

The second car travels 75 km in
=(75)/(75) minutes

= 1 hour

The second car passed the point A before 1 hour.

Therefore (1 hour 15 minutes-1 hour) = 15 minutes after the first car passed point A, the second car passed point A.
