Timothy and blake want to buy some snack to bring on their flied trip. Timothy bought 4 clif bars and 2 apples for $6.20.Blake bought 5 clif bars and 3 apples $8.10. Based on this information how much is for on e clif bar? How much is for one apple?

In this case we can solve it by means of a 2x2 system of equations, like this:

Let x is the value of clif bars

let y is the value of an apple

Thus:

4 * x + 2 * y = 6.2

5 * x + 3 * y = 8.1 => x = (8.1 - 3 * y) / 5

replacing, we are left with:

4 * ((8.1 - 3 * y) / 5) + 2 * y = 6.2

6.48 - 2.4 * y + 2 * y = 6.2

2.4 * y - 2 * y = 6.48 - 6.2

0.4 * y = 0.28

y = 0.28 / 0.4

y = 0.7

Now to calculate x:

x = (8.1 - 3 * 0.7) / 5

x = 1.2

So the value of clif bars is $ 1.2 and the value of an apple is $ 0.7
