First Question:

To find the value of K when F is 5 you must plug in 5 for F and solve for K:

5 =
(9)/(5)k - 455.67

To do this first add 455.67 to both sides (what you do on one side you must do to the other). Since 455.67 is being subtracted on the right side of the equation, addition (the opposite of subtraction) will cancel it out (make it zero) from the right side and bring it over to the left side.

5 + 455.67=
(9)/(5)k - 455.67 + 455.67

460.67 =
(9)/(5)k + 0

460.67 =
(9)/(5)k

Now we must completely isolate k by removing
(9)/(5) from the right side of the equation. In order to do this you must multiply both sides of the equation by
(5)/(9). This is simply the reciprocal of
(9)/(5). Multiplying a fraction by its reciprocal always equals 1

460.67 *
(5)/(9)=
(9)/(5)k *
(5)/(9)

(460.67 * 5)/(9) =(9*5)/(5*9) k

(2303.35)/(9) = (45)/(45)k

255.927 = k

k ≈ 255.93

Second Question:

y = -
(1)/(4) (x + 8) + 2

X-intercept is set up like so: (0, y). The x value of the x-intercept will ALWAYS be zero. Knowing this you can already plug in zero for the x-value in the equation given above:

y = -
(1)/(4) (0 + 8) + 2

Now all we need to do is solve for the y-value! To do this you must solve using the rules of PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) REMEMBER: IF NOT APPLICABLE TO THE EQUATION YOU MAY SKIP THAT STEP IN PEMDAS .

y = -
(1)/(4) (0 + 8) + 2

Parentheses...

y = -
(1)/(4) (0 + 8) + 2

0 + 8 <<<In the parentheses so you must solve first

8

so...

y = -
(1)/(4) (8) + 2

Multiplication...

y = -
(1)/(4) (8) + 2

-(1)/(4) * 8 --->
-(8)/(4)

-2

so..

y =
-2 + 2

Addition...

y = -2 + 2

-2 + 2

0

The y-value is zero for the x-intercept.

The x-intercept of the equation y = -
(1)/(4) (x + 8) + 2 is (0, 0)

NOTE: The point (0, 0) is the orgin, which means that it is also the y-intercept

Hope this helped!
