Harriet Tubman helped many slaves find freedom. Harriet Tubman was born in the early 1820's in Maryland and she as well as her family were slaves which meant they had to work hard.

When she escaped in 1849 and went to Philadelphia, she realized that other people were having a very difficult time time too so she helped others escape.

Harriet became part of the Underground Railroad which was a series of safe houses and secret routes. They secretly traveled from one house to the next and Harriet led about 300 people to freedom.
