Well to start with there is a vertex formula which is
-(b)/(2a) =h\\,
f(h)

Your initial equation is
x^2+4x+8 where
ax^2+bx+c. So you would plug in your numbers
-(4)/(2(1))
=-(4)/(2) =-2 we know know that
h=-2 so plug in h in
f(-2) which would be (-2)^2+4(-2)+8 = 4-8+8 = 4 which would make the vertex
(-2,4)
