Pretend there is two different squares. The first square would be 2 x 2, since the area formula is A = l (length) x w (width). That would be four.

So now the other half is finding the area of the triangle. You make the 4 a 2, because you subtract it from the bottom which is 2. And the area formula of a triangle is
A = 1/2(or 0.5) x b x h. Base would be the bottom or and the height is the number in line with the right angle which is the 2. So again it is 2 x 2 which is 4. Now 4 x 0.5 = 2.


4 + 2 = 6
