A question on notation: Does sine inverse have an exponent? If not, why is there a negative one there? If so, why can't you just divide?

Answer:

Explanation:

When you write

-1

y = sin x, the "-1" is not an exponent, but rather an indication of "inverse function."

-1

y = sin x can also be written as y = arcsin x.

No exponentiation here, and no division here.
