Are colleges and universities successfully producing skilled workers to meet demands of today's American workforce? What role, if any, should companies play in shaping the curriculum? (This question is an opinion; but you should base your answer on what you know about technology and how jobs focus on specific skills and how people can attain those skills.)

Answer:

I'd say that yes, overall, colleges and universities are successfully producing workers to meet the demands of today's American. It could be beneficial for students to have more hands-on experience of solving real problems or getting more practice for the profession rather than all too often getting practice by solving problems from a textbook.

Step-by-step explanation:

It could be useful for students to acquire more experience. Internships are a great way for students to experience what their jobs would require. The fact is you don't know what you don't know. The reason I'm saying this is because say, for instance, somebody wants to pursue a degree in chemistry. Well, there are a lot of divisions in chemistry. There's biochemistry, there's being a professor (assuming you get a graduate degree), molecular chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, researching, etc. What does the person want? Would getting opportunities to explore the various divisions of your major be helpful? I think so. I think it would actually be helpful for the workforce because then companies would have a higher pecentage of finding people who will be great employees. Why? Because the people they hire would love what they're doing since they would know what they want and what is required for their professions. Textbooks, although are necessary to help prepare us, are very different from real life hands-on experiences. Maybe if the textbooks included more real life scenarios instead of giving us random data (versus actual real life data) or making up fake stories that we can't connect to, it would be beneficial to make these improvisions. Companinies could play a role in shaping the curriculum by givinig facts to our textbook writers and offering more internships.
