Howard is designing a chair swing ride. The swing ropes are 4 meters long, and in full swing they tilt in an

angle of 23º. Howard wants the chairs to be 3.5 meters above the ground in full swing.

The Height of the pole = 7.18 m

Explanation:

Given:

The rope is 4 m long.

The angle is tilted at 23° when the distance from the ground is 3.5 m

To Find:

The height of the pole

Solution:

Find the length of the pole from the top to the swing (Denoted by x in the attachment):

Let the distance be H

cos θ = Adjacent / Hypotenuse

cos (23) = H / 4

H = 4 cos(23)

H = 3.68 m

Find the height of the pole:

Height of the pole = 3.5 + 3.68

Height of the pole = 7.18 m
