The length of a rectangle is 2 in longer than it’s width. If the perimeter is 28 in, find it’s area.

Ok, so let's say that the width is w.

This means that because the length is 2 in. longer than the width, it would be w + 2.

So let's put that into an equation:

28 = 2(w + 2w + 2)

Now, we have to distribute:

28 = 2w + 4w + 4

Now we subtract 4 from both sides:

24 = 2w + 4w

Now we add the like terms:

24 = 6w

So, now we just divide by 6 on both sides.

w = 4

So the width is 4 in.

And because the length is plus another 2 in. , we add 2 to get 6 in.
