In a longitudinal wave, particles of the medium vibrate back and forth in a route which is parallel (and anti-parallel) to the course of energy transport Energy traveling outward from the guitar string goes from left to right.

i hope this is helps!

Answer: the waves travel in an horizontal direction while the strings vibrate in a vertical direction.
