1) In the diagram below the shape of the rectangular prism is shown:

where L=7.2, W= 9 and H=4.5

In order to cover only the sides, the area of the front and back faces and the side faces should be added, the top and bottom faces should not be

so the area of front and back faces= 2 (length *width) (multiply by 2 to account for both the front and back face, instead of just one face)

=2(7.2)(9)= 129.6 cm^2

area of side faces: 2(W)(H)=2*9*4.5=81cm^2

129.6cm^2+81cm^2=210.6 cm^2
