To find:

The area of the figure.

Solution:

Length of larger rectangle = 9

Width of larger rectangle = 8

Area of larger rectangle = length × width

= 9 × 8

Area of larger rectangle = 72 square units

Length of smaller rectangle = 4

Width of smaller rectangle = 2

Area of smaller rectangle = length × width

= 4 × 2

Area of smaller rectangle= 8 square units

Area of the figure = Area of larger rectangle - Area of smaller rectangle

= 72 - 8

= 64 square units

The area of the figure is 64 square units.
