RNA is made up of monomers called nucleotides, just like DNA. A nitrogenous base, a pentose (five-carbon) sugar termed ribose, and a phosphate group are the three components of each nucleotide. In a nucleotide, each nitrogenous base is linked to a sugar molecule, which is linked to one or more phosphate groups.
