Answer:

y=-1

Explanation:

5x + 3y = 12 ....(*)

4x - 5y = 17....(**)

multiply (*) by : -4 and(**) by 5

you have : -20x -12 = -48.....(1)

20x -25y = 85....(2)

add(1) and(2) : -37y = 37 so : y =37/-37= -1
