Hi, to answer this question we have to simplify the expression:

First, we have to apple distributive property for the (-) sign. It’s like having the number -1 multiplied by the sum.

5/4-(7/4+2i)

5/4 -1(7/4+2i)

5/4 (-1) 7/4 (-1)2i

5/4 -7/4 -2i

Now we add both numbers (with no variable ⇒5/4 + (-7/4) )

-1/2 -2i or

(-1/2)+ (-2)i
