4x^2 - 2x - 8 = 0

Using the discriminant

b^2 - 4ac

a = 4

b = -2

c = -8

Using the coefficients with also adding the signs before each

Insert the values

b^2 - 4ac

= (-2)^2 - 4 * 4 * (-8)

= 4 - 4 *4 * -8

= 4 - 16 * -8

= 4 - -128

= 132

The value of the discriminant is 132
