Dillon decided to construct a rectangular deck in

his back yard. It is 16 feet long and 13 feet wide.
He is trying to determine whether he should
construct the deck using cedar or a pressure
treated material.
The cedar costs $21.09 per square foot for
materials.
The pressure treated material costs $18.90 per
square foot for materials.
The cost for labor will be the same for either
material.
How much money would Dillon save installing a
deck with pressure treated material instead of
cedar? Explain or show your reasoning. You may
use diagrams, drawings, or equations as well as
words.

Answer:

He would save $455.52

Explanation:

You would multiply 13 by 16 to get the total area of the deck.

Then you would multiply 208 times 21.09

Then you would multiply 208 by 18.90

You would get two numbers: 4386. 72 and 3931.2

You subtract the two numbers and you get 455. 52
