In 22 ​minutes, a conveyor belt moves 600600 pounds of recyclable aluminum from the delivery truck to a storage area. A smaller belt moves the same quantity of cans the same distance in 88 minutes. If both belts are​ used, find how long it takes to move the cans to the storage area.

1.6 minutes = 1 minute and 36 seconds

Explanation:

(Assuming that the correct values are 2 minutes, 600 pounds and 8 minutes)

The first belt can move 600 pounds of material in 2 minutes, so it can move 300 pounds per minute

The smaller belt can move the same 600 pounds the same distance in 8 minutes, so it can move 75 pounds per minute.

If we use them together, they can move 300+75 = 375 pounds of material per minute.

If we want to move 600 pounds of material, we can solve that using rule of three:

375 pounds -> 1 minute

600 pounds -> x minutes

375/600 = 1/x

x = 600/375 = 1.6 minutes = 1 minute and 36 seconds
