The total value of a collection of nickels and dimes is $3.05. If the number of nickels is 19 greater than the number of dimes. Which equation determines how many coins there are of each kind?

Answer: 10d+5(d-19)=305

Explanation:

let d = number of dimes; then,10d = the total value of the dimes

d + 19 = number of nickels; then, 5(d + 19) = the total value of the nickels

total value of dimes + total value of nickels = 305 cents

10d + 5(d + 19) = 305
