Write an equation in slope intercept form for the line that passes thru the point (-6,-2) and has a slope of 1/3.?

Y=mx+b
-6 (x) -2(y) 1/3 (b)
-2= -6 + 1/3

Answer:

y+2= 1/3(x+6)

Explanation:

The formula is
y-y2=m(x-x2). The number 2 behind the x and the y is just to show that there is a difference between the other x and y. The m is where the slope should go. The points (-6,-2) are to replace the 2nd x and y. The -6 is suppose to replace the 2nd x and the -2 is suppose to replace the y. If you see how I did it, you might be wondering why they are not negative. It is because if you subtract with a negative number it becomes positive. How you can do this is to use the Leave Change Change method.

Ex: 5-(-2) convert it to 5+2
