Answer: Area of shaded region is 1.72 ft²

Explanation:

Area of shaded region = area of the rectangle - area of the semi circle.

The formula for determining the area of a circle is expressed as

Area = πr²

Where

r represents the radius of the circle.

π is a constant whose value is 3.14

Since we are dealing with a semi circle, then

Area of semi circle = 1/2 × πr²

From the diagram,

Diameter = 4 ft

Radius = diameter/2 = 4/2

Radius = 2 ft

Area = 1/2 × 3.14 × 2² = 6.28 ft²

Considering the triangle,

Length = diameter = 4 ft

Width = radius = 2 ft

Area of rectangle = 4 × 2 = 8 ft²

Area of shaded region

= 8 - 6.28 = 1.72 ft²
