Why did Hindenburg appoint Hitler chancellor? What advantages and disadvantages did he consider?

President Hindenburg had appointed Hitler as Second-Chancellor because he was told by advisers that if Hitler were to be placed in that position, he would be easier to control, which was one of the primary advantages. A very possible disadvantage was that if Hindenburg were to die, Hitler would have much more power in his hands.
