Answer:

A) The number of left pies are 120.

B) The number of sold apple pies are 40.

Explanation:

Given,

Total number of pies = 160

We need to find;

a) number of pies left after selling.

b) number of sold apple pies.

Solution,

Firstly we will find out the total number of apple pies.

Here given that 0.55 of the total pies are apple pies.

framing in equation form, we get;

number of apple pies =
160* 0.55=88

So the number of cherry pies is equal to total number of baked pies minus number of apple pies.

framing in equation form, we get;

number of cherry pies =
160-88=72

Now Let the number of apple pies sold be 'x'.

So according to question after selling 'x' apple pies
(3)/( 5) of the remaining pies were cherry pies.

And we have calculated the number of cherry pies i.e. 72.

So we can frame it in equation form as;

(160-x)(3)/(5)=72

On using cross multiplication, we get;

(160-x)3=72*5\\\\480-3x=360

On combining the like terms, we get;

480-360=3x\\\\120=3x

Now using division property we will divide both side by '3' and get;

(120)/(3)=(3x)/(3)\\\\40=x

Now number of left pies is equal total number of pies minus sold number of pies.

Number of left pies =
160-40=120

A) Hence The number of left pies are 120.

B) The number of sold apple pies are 40.
