Answer: x = -24

Explanation:

X/12 + 1/3 = -5/3

Find the LCM of the left hand side of the equation:

x + 4/12 = -5/3

Then cross multiply

3(x + 4) = -5/3

Open the bracket

3x + 12 = - 60

Subtract 12 from both sides of the equation

3x + 12 - 12 = -60 - 12

3x = -72

Divide both sides by 3

x = -72/3

x = -24

Check:

-24/12 + 1/3 = -5/3

Find the LCM of the left hand side of the equation

-24 + 4/12 = -20/12

Divide by a common factor of 4

-20/12 = -5/3
