So i will give you a bit of advice so you can answer :) :

I would sketch the shape out, and then divide it into right triangles, triangles, squares, etc and use the measurements and the equations on the side for each shape and add it all together.

Answer:

58 sq in

Explanation:

You need to cut the drawing into pieces in your mind first. Starting at the bottom, the triangle's area is 1/2bh, so it is 1/2 x 8 x 6 = 24 sq in.

Now I would cut the top triangle off, and do 1/2bh, and the height is 3 as you can tell from the right measurement of 8 minus the left measurement of 5.

1/2 x 3 x 6 = 9 sq in.

Now you have a trapezoid left. It's area is (b1 + b2)/2 x h. Base 1 (the top) is 6 and base 2 (the bottom) is 4. 6 + 4 / 2 = 5. 5 x 5 = 25 sq in.

Now just add them up: 24 + 9 + 25 = 58 sq in.
