An animal cage is holding 5 black

cats and 4 white cats. None of them
want to be in there. The cage door is
opened slightly and two cats escape.
What is the probability that the
escaping cats are both black?

5/9

Step by Step

4+5=9

Therefore nine is the total so it is the denominator.

To find out the probability of it being a black cat you place five as the numerator.

Hence why the answer is 5/8
